A MITIGATION RESPONSE SCENARIO TO A TSUNAMI IN METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.
Web
This project takes a new approach as to tsunami analysis in Greater Vancouver. Much research has been done regarding the effects of tusnamis while evaluating populations at risk. Here, we will look at the before, during and most importantly after impacts and preparation methods to best mitigate such an event. Currently, the Greater Vancouver region in British Columbia, Canada, due to its location on the ring of fire founds itself vulnerable to natural disasters.
I have thus examined through 3 GIS based analysis, a spatial extent of a tsunami's aftermath on the population, schools, libraries, community centers, hospitals and roads, an evaluation of elevation, density and proximity to the coast, and least cost path routes from risk zones to safe shelters.
The cities of Delta and Richmond were found to be most at risk due to their geological aspects and lowest elevations, thus special attention should be put into such areas.
